Day 26 of 365 Things to do in Burlington – Pomelo Thai/Viet Cuisine

For some of the best Thai/Viet in Burlington, you will have to give Pomelo a try. Located between Red Lobster and a Western Union franchise, it took me some time before I could really give this place a shot. But once again, you should never judge a book by its cover. The menu is filled with all of the usual suspects which was great as I always like to judge the authenticity of a Thai restaurant based on their Green Curry. Upon scanning the menu, I realized that Pomelo could probably remove the ‘Vietnamese’ part of the sign as the only thing Vietnamese that we found on the menu were the Fresh Spring Rolls.

We started with the appetizer platter consisting of Thai spring rolls, curry rolls, calamari, chicken and beef satays, shrimp rolls and shrimp chips. All that for $20! Fresh, flavourful and delicious! Allison and I could only get through 3/4 of the starter. The green curry came with coconut rice which was a delicious meal in itself, but the prize of the night was definitely the curry. Often the chicken can be dried out in the dish if prepared incorrectly, but this chicken was tender and the green veggies were not overcooked. The curry itself was thick and creamy and spicy enough without being overpowering. We also tried a new dish on the menu, the Thai style crispy ginger stir-fry which was equally delicious….I have to buy a thesaurus as I am using the word DELICIOUS far too often here.

The service was friendly and attentive and the chef actually came to the table to check on how we were enjoying his food. Over all it was a wonderful experience and will be returning to try all of the other menu items we didn’t have the time or the stomach space for this time.
